What is Mold and Where Does it Come From?

There has been a lot of publicity in the media with the growth of mold. Million dollar lawsuits have been made public with their health hazards and damage to property through mold...The fact is mold has been around forever and is a natural item. With mold, certain things we have known to enjoy and benefit from, wouldn't exist. Such as penecillin, cheeses, yogurt, mushrooms and many other things we take for granted day in and day out. However, an abundance of mold, and in the wrong places, can result in bodily harm and damage to homes and their occupants.

To remove mold successfully, you need to understand what mold is and what it is you are removing. When you hire a contractor, such as C & I, you will need to know what they are talking about when they discuss mold removal options and eradicating processes with you.

Mold is a member of the fungi kingdom, but has physical characteristics of both the animal and plant kingdoms. There are thousands of species of fungi, but we only interact with about 80 different species in the household and world of mold remediation.

Stachybotrys (pronounced stacky-bot-tress) - or"black mold" has been all over the news, but in reality it's not as common in homes as other species of fungi. The most common of fungi collected in air samples are Aspergillus, Penicillium, Ascospore, Basidiospore, Cladosporium and Curvularia.
